History

Towards the end of 1997, the Huonville Football Club created an upset for the Huon Football Association by making a proposal to join the Southern Tasmanian Football League. Huonville was considering joining the bigger league because of the uncertainty of the four remaining Huon clubs (Huonville, Franklin, Cygnet and Kermandie) being viable in future years.

After much debate, Kermandie and Cygnet decided they would join the STFL as they were, but the Huonville Bulldogs and Franklin Lions decided to merge, and became the Huonville Lions Football Club. However, the history of these Clubs started over a hundred years earlier.
